Staff Pharmacist
In the early stages of my career, I held a number of pharmacy positions,
both before school as a pharmacy technician in the Air Force, after school
working in the in-patient pharmacy at a hospital, and then later in a
large community pharmacy. After I was married, I really wanted to find
a position with predictable and reasonable hours. That is when I joined
Medco Health. As a staff pharmacist here I worked in the pharmacy, trained
in DUR, but I was missing the patient interaction. That is when a position
opened up for a counseling/customer service pharmacist.
Counseling/Customer Service Pharmacist
Over the next four years, I worked in a customer service research and
correspondence unit taking requests from call center pharmacies throughout
the country. This position involved a great deal of interaction with patients,
including counseling as well as with doctors. As Medco Health grew, so
too did our group of CSPs, from three to eight. When an opportunity to
move to Nevada's new pharmacy was offered, I accepted. Here, at
this larger operation, we had 11 pharmacists and 50 customer service representatives.
Pharmacist Supervisor
After only a year at the Nevada pharmacy, I was promoted to pharmacist
supervisor with responsibility for a team of customer service representatives
and counseling pharmacists. I was responsible for overseeing the daily
operations and quality of the work of this team. A few months later, a
nearby call center pharmacy was undergoing expansion, and I was asked
to lead this operation.
Managing Pharmacist
As the new call center expanded, I was asked to essentially build a brand
new pharmacy. This was a very big responsibility but one which was very
exciting. The pharmacy from about 200 employees to over 900 in just under
two years. My responsibilities were enormous, including overseeing compliance
and regulatory issues, as well as supervising the start-up team.
Director of Pharmacy Practice
Initially, my role included all compliance issues and other responsibilities
that came directly under my license. About a year later, I was offered
the same position in our Tampa call center pharmacy, which was, at the
time, in the planning stages. It was my responsibility to get this new
call center up and running. That included interviewing and selecting the
pharmacists (more than 200), to securing all of the licensing and inspections.
In approximately two months, we were fully operational. At Medco Health,
you really do build your own career path. It's a very innovative
and dynamic environment and employees are appreciated. I have found my
niche and I love being challenged on a daily basis.
