Title: Manager, Clinical Practice & Education

Overview:

  • Develop and provide clinical education programs for pharmacists
  • Provide clinical support for health management, patient counseling, and drug utilization review
  • Assess clinical performance of pharmacists in the Medco Health Home Delivery Pharmacy Service™ programs
  • Review and develop clinical content for patient and physician education materials and pharmacist support materials for health management programs

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide clinical education programs (didactic lectures and roleplays/case studies) for pharmacists covering related pharmacotherapy and pathophysiology topics for Health Management Programs, Patient Counseling, and Drug Utilization Review (DUR)
  • Provide coverage for the Clinical Consultation Service which provides drug information and drug therapy decision-making support to the staff pharmacists, supervisors, and Directors of pharmacy practice
  • Provide ongoing clinical performance evaluation of pharmacists
  • Review and develop clinical content for patient letters, patient newsletters, patient counseling call scripts, physician guidelines, physician letters, and physician faxes for Health Management Programs and DUR Programs
  • Provide guidance and supervision for Managed Care Pharmacy Residents working on the Clinical Consultation Service
  • Provide clinical support and expertise to internal departments including: Legal, Professional Practices, Managed Care Operations, Account Management, and Clinical Product Management
  • Provide clinical support for special projects

Experience Guidelines, Business Competencies, and Leadership Competencies include:

  • Clinical Residency/Advanced degree (Pharm.D., MS) or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years clinical practice experience (drug information service, inpatient team rounds, ambulatory care clinic, nursing home consulting, etc.)
  • 3-5 years clinical teaching experience (e.g., Clinical Coordinator/Clinical Preceptor)
  • High professional ethics and standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and team building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
