The Medco Managed Care Pharmacy Practice Residency is an organized, one-year, post-graduate training program that focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills pharmacists need in order to assume leadership roles within a managed care practice setting.

$37,000 (reviewed yearly)

Residency Structure:

  • Orientation — 1 month
  • Drug Information / Formulary Management — 2 months
  • Clinical Practice & Education — 3 months
  • Coverage Management / Clinical Therapeutics — 3 months
  • Elective Rotations — 3 months

The residency program also has a research component. The results will be presented at a professional pharmacy conference and/or published in a peer-reviewed journal. The completion of research projects will allow the residents to enhance their project planning and development.

Unique Aspects of the Program:

  • Residents participate in a daily conference meeting with the Clinical Consultation Service Team, which provides therapeutic advice and drug information to Medco pharmacists
  • Exposure to innovative pharmacy models, automation, and information technology
  • Exposure to the legislative and regulatory aspects of pharmacy
  • Attendance and participation in a National P&T Committee Meeting
  • Attendance at national pharmacy conferences

Requirements of Applicants:

  • Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Eligibility for New Jersey licensure

  • Preferred Managed Care Rotation and/or experience
